2006 World Series of PokerWith so many online casinos and poker rooms having sponsored buy-in competitions leading up to the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP), the most prestigious poker tournament in the world is bound to be another hotly contested event. For the past few tournaments, so-called amateur players of predominantly online poker origins have trumped the pros at their own game. While many of the 5000-plus competitors are indeed casual and amateur players, many of them are also genuine talents. The 2006 World Series of Poker may once again demonstrate that time spent at the tables, whether those tables are virtual or real, can actually lead to the multi-million dollar prize and professional status that the 2006 World Series of Poker will bestow on its eventual star.Win your seat into the next 2010 WSOP or WPT event by joining Bodog Poker and playing in a satellite tournament! While much is still to be said about the professional poker circuit, the big buzz surrounding the 2006 World Series of Poker is hands down whether or not the online poker community will take the bracelet yet again. This is not out of the question. It was, after all, the 2003, 2004 and 2005 World Series of Poker tournaments where online talents Chris Moneymaker, Greg "Fossilman" Raymer and Joseph Hachem each respectively took the victory pot. Moreover, both years featured a preponderance of unknowns playing at the final table. Check out the entire 2010 WSOP Schedule! As the old saying goes, "once is funny, but twice is just not being careful". It may well be that the professional poker players were not entirely prepared to deal with the influx of online players, or the extent to which online poker was an adequate proving ground for the World Series of Poker. The 2006 World Series of Poker is then on the one hand an opportunity for the professional circuit to rebound and demonstrate that the past two years were "one-off" events. On the other hand, the 2006 World Series of Poker may be when online poker players, for the forth time straight, show their superior grit, skill, and luck at the tables. Whichever way the 2006 World Series of Poker turns out it is bound to be an exciting battle. Should a member of poker's professional circuit win, it will still no doubt be against the wit of an outsider at the final table. That, in and of itself, is proof not only of online poker's viability, but of the potential professional caliber of those who play it often enough. --- by Bones McCoy at offshorepokerroom.com on March 28, 2006
