Michigan Man Turns $1 Tourney Win into Big Cash at WSOP Main Event

Bodog Poker player Dennis Scott (dgs) busted out of the World Series of Poker on day five of this year's World Series of Poker Main Event and while we would have loved to see the factory supervisor from Midland, Michigan end up among the November Nine, his story was so great that we had to take a few minutes to talk to him. Dennis won his slot at the World Series of Poker after buying into a $1 satellite event in Bodog's WSOP event this year and parlayed multiple tournament wins into a trip to Vegas.

You turned $1 into $27,000 - how does that make you feel, besides "completely awesome?"

Yeah, one dollar! Pretty great, huh? I won a little money; how can I complain, right? It's pretty amazing. I'm the big talk of the town right now.

You ended up in the money, which is better than the vast majority of players. Are you happy with how you played? What do you think you could have done better?

I think I actually played everything I did right for the most part. When you reach the end, of course, you always see what you did wrong. Me, I'm not a big Ace-King fan and I actually lost on Ace-King and throughout the whole tournament, not once did I go all-in with Ace-King. I was short-stacked and I made the move and lost, so maybe, if I could have done anything different, it would have been to not go in with Ace-King.

Would I do it again? In the same situation, yeah, I'd probably go all-in with Ace-King. The position I was in, I felt good about how I played it. Even when I walked away from there I thought to myself 'Yeah, I did about the best that I could.'

How has the trip in Vegas been for you? Have you had a good time?

It's been a very good time. Bodog has treated me very well. Vegas has been great but I'm ready to go home now. [Laughter]

It's great if I could have stayed a couple more days, don't get me wrong, that would have been awesome but my luck ran out, I guess you could say.

Win your seat into the next 2010 WSOP or WPT event by joining Bodog Poker and playing in a satellite tournament!

Have you had any time to do anything else while you're out here besides play poker?

I actually got here on Monday and you only had to play poker for two days in that first week, so I got in a lot of sightseeing. I saw both the old Strip and the new Strip. I've had a good time, had a lot of fun. My brother got to come along with me because my wife doesn't like to fly and we had a really great time just hanging out.

Is this your biggest tournament cash? What other live events have you gotten in on?

Actually, it's my only tournament cash not online. I've played in one other tournament at a casino, but it was nothing like the WSOP. I play in a lot of home games and the like and I get along quite well in them.

So this is your first experience with the WSOP.

It's actually the first time I've ever even tried to play in it.

What advice do you have to other players that might find themselves at the World Series of Poker for the first time?

My biggest advice is to never give up. Both of the first two days I was down, I barely had any chips but I came back on both those days from nothing to having a nice stack and, you know, you've got to keep moving on. You've got to keep playing.

Again, congratulations. Everyone at Bodog has been following your progress and we've been impressed. Way to go!

I want to thank Bodog for the opportunity. It's been great!
