Mike "The Mouth" Matusow

Mike Matusow has the nickname "The Mouth" for a reason. He often runs his mouth to other players and to the press, but that is also one of the biggest reasons why some people like to watch him play. An example of what we are talking about can be clearly seen in this Mike Matusow quote, "There's no skill in poker. Poker is a joke. Tournament poker is a joke. Whoever gets most lucky is the next superstar." Although there is no way of knowing if that is a strategy he has cooked up or if that is just how his personality is, Mike Matusow has a lot of fans and did very well in the main event of the 2005 World Series of Poker.

Mike Matusow has one of the most colorful pasts in today's Poker scene. He has been in trouble with the law several times, mostly stemming from drug related charges. During the 2005 World Series of Poker, Mike declared that he had cleaned up his life and was now on the right track. Unfortunately for him, however, that past caught up with him once again after the 2005 World Series of Poker, when he went to jail for 6 months over a past drug related arrest.

Mike Matusow began his career as a Las Vegas, Nevada casino card dealer. His credits include receiving a bracelet in the WSOP No Limit Holdem event in 1999, receiving a bracelet in the WSOP Omaha Hi Low event in 2002, placing third in the World Poker Tour's Aruba Ultimate Bet Poker Classic in 2004, and placing ninth in the World Series of Poker's Main Event in 2005. These appearances have helped boost Mike's career in a very positive way.

Other Interesting Facts About Mike Matusow:

  • Mike is also an emotional guy, as seen when he cried after being eliminated from the 2004 tournament.
  • A "Matusow Meltdown" happens when he plays very well over the span of a tournament and then loses it all near the end, usually in a very short period of time. After a "Matusow Meltdown" is when Mike is bound to get the most emotional. This shows that he has a sensitive side, which some may be glad to see after being exposed to his ramblings at other players.
  • Mike lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • He is one of most skilled Omaha Hi Low players on the Poker scene.
