Omaha Poker Strategy

When you mention Poker the first and most popular game that comes to mind is Texas Holdem. That is changing as the Omaha Poker strategy becomes equally as popular. Texas Holdem and Omaha Poker are almost the same however they have slightly different rules and therefore, Omaha Poker Strategy will differ from those strategies used in a Texas Holdem game.

Omaha players keep their best five cards from the available nine dealt cards. There are four personal cards and five community cards in the game. Don't forget that each five card hand must contain two personal cards and 3 community cards. Playing it is very simple. The game begins with each player being dealt a total of four cards. Of these two will be used in your final hand. A round of betting takes place after dealing the cards. Remove the top card from the deck and the next three cards get placed face up on the table. Three of the cards on the table must be used.

The top card from the deck is removed and the final fifth card is placed face up on the table. There will be a total of five cards on the table facing up during the game. Three of these cards have to be used. A final round of betting takes place, then the winner is determined. This is how you end up with two personal cards being dealt to you during the first round and three community cards which you choose during the progress of the game off the table. Of the five cards that you hold are you a winner?

The points system works as follows. Points are awarded for the highest ranking card you have. As an example an ACE is awarded 4 points, a KING is awarded 3 points, a QUEEN is awarded 2.5 points, a JACK is awarded 2 points and a TEN, or a NINE is awarded 1.5 points. Points are also awarded if you have more than one of the same kind, such as having two Ace's or if you have no gaps in your cards such as KING, QUEEN, JACK etc.
