Phil Ivey: The Poker Master
Phil Ivey "The Poker Master"
Worlds Greatest Poker Player
Phil Ivey, who resides in Las Vegas with his wife, is one of the most successful and youngest poker players on the World Series of Poker circuit. He won his first World Series of Poker title when he was only 23 years old. His main focus has always been and remains on cash games. Now at the age of 31, he has proven himself in a class by himself when playing poker.
Growing up in Roselle, New Jersey, Phil Ivey learned the ways of playing and the dangers of gambling at a very young age by his grandfather. At the age of eight, his grandfather taught him all about penny-ante 5-card stud and then showed him ways of cheating in hopes of showing him the dark side of gambling. Phil Ivey loved the game and soon learned everything he could about the game.

As a teenager, Phil Ivey routinely played and won against seasoned adult players with no difficulty. When he turned 16, Phil Ivey began looking for ways to expand on his winning strategies by searching for other opportunities to play. He soon told his parents and teachers he knew he wanted to be a professional poker player. Before he was legal gambling age, he often headed for Atlantic City with a fake ID with the name Jerome Graham, so he could be allowed to play at the table. He quickly earned the nickname "No Name Jerome" at the tables. He was also very well known as an expert video game player.

At the table, Phil Ivey is described as dedicated, quiet and reserved. Sometimes he is even compared to Tiger Woods at the poker table. He is also known for wearing headphones while playing and his piercing stare. His unassuming and focused strategy at the table has paid off big. When Phil Ivey was just 23, he won his first World Series of Poker playing Pot Limit Omaha. He took away $195,000 in winnings. The following year, he won a record-tying three World Series of Poker bracelets in 7-Card Stud, 7- Card Hi/Lo and S.H.O.E, winning a combined total of just over $350,000.
More recently, Phil Ivey has achieved the status of a feared opponent at the poker table. In 2005, Ivey walked away from the Monte Carlo Millions tournament with $1 million for first prize. Only four days later, Phil Ivey won an invitation-only tournament winning $600,000. His winning is considered a huge accomplishment for someone who has only been playing professional poker for ten years. Phil Ivey will continue to flourish at the tables, break records and win Championship Titles!
