Here are a few Video Poker tips to help you get the most return on your play and increase your chance for beating the Video Poker odds:

  • Play the highest amount allowed. Almost every game offers a bonus for the highest hand. If the amount of coins for the high hand is too much for your taste, choose a different game with a lower high.

  • Video Poker is actually random - the cards are not chosen in a certain pattern, so every game is completely fair and there is no way to 'fix' it. Pull tabs, on the other hand, are not true Video Poker. Video Poker players love online video Poker so much they play for hours at a time!

  • There is no such thing as a machine being 'overdue' to hit a certain combination. For example, it could hit a straight flush any moment and the probability is just as high that it will if you've just gotten a straight flush or if it hasn't hit one in a week. Also, machines don't play 'tight' right before hitting, either. There's no way you can predict it or time it. The theories that say you can are just myths.

  • If there is a slot club card available, online or off, make sure you use it. There is usually free money in it and that little bit extra may be just what you need to get the edge.

  • If you're using your slot club card in the casino, make sure that it doesn't disconnect. Every so often, just check it to make sure that the game is reading it. You don't want to miss out on any extras!

  • There are some great games out there. Do your research ahead of time and make sure you hit the most lucrative ones. You can find lists online and off of the good ones.

  • You have the option to discard in Video Poker, which means that it's not all luck. There is strategy involved. You can choose between simple, intermediate, and advanced strategies based on different possible card combinations.

Here are some strategy tips on some cards you may be dealt:

High card: A high card is any of the royals or face cards (jack, queen, king) and aces. Hold onto them. You earn back the money you've put down if you can match up a couple of these.

Outside straight: An outside straight is a group of cards in sequential order but neither beginning nor ending at either end of the card count. That means there are no aces or kings on either end of the sequential group, so that it can be added to on either end. (i.e. 4, 5, 6, 7)

Inside straight: An inside straight is either at one end of the card count (i.e. A,2,3,4 and J,Q,K,A) or it is a group of cards that would be sequential but for missing one of the inside cards (i.e. 3,4,6,7)
