World Series of Poker Main EventThe World Series of Poker Main Event is the culmination of months of tournament play across the country in satellite tournaments in casinos. The World Series of Poker Main Event is the $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold em tournament held at Binion's in Las Vegas. Those who make it to the World Series of Poker main event not only get a shot at the larger prize money, but the winners get the largest purse and a gold bracelet as well as getting their picture placed in the Gallery of Champions at Binion's.Over the years there have been many memorable scenes during the World Series of Poker main event. In 1982, Jack Straus, thinking he had been knocked out of the tournament, found that he had one $500 chip left, which he used to engineer an amazing come-from-behind win. Further, there have been only four players who have won multiple titles in the main event. Johnny Moss won three times, in 1970, 1971 and 1974. Stu Ungar won three in 1980, 1981 and 1997. Doyle Brunson won the main even twice in 1976 and 1977 and Johnny Chan won the title twice in 1987 and 1988. Bodog wants you to win your seat to the 2011 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. Check out the entire 2010 WSOP Schedule! The number of entrants in the World Series of Poker has increased over the years and has virtually exploded in the last 3 or 4 years. In 2000 there were only 4,780 players in the tournaments, but by 2005 the amount of players rose to over 23,000! In the main event, player entries rose from 839 in 2003 to 2,576 in 2004, to 5,619 in 2005. As of 2006, a limit of 8000 players is an official stipulation for the main event at the World Series of Poker. Much of the growth in popularity can be attributed to the broadcasting of the events and satellite tournaments by the various sports channels on television. As with most tournaments, the casino takes a share in the entry buy-ins, usually between 6% and 10%, with the rest going back into the prize purses. This accounts for the much larger winning prize amounts in recent years. In 2005 the main event winner, Joseph Hachem, took home $7.5 million. Subtracting the $10,000 buy-ins, the 560 players in the main event won a combined $7 million!
