While attending college at MIT and studying political science, Woods took part in the theater at the school. His first role was as a bit part in the 1969 movie Out of It. Shortly thereafter James Woods was cast in the TV movie All the Way Home which aired in 1971. By 1972 he had a major role in the film The Visitors which was nominated for a Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival. By 1980, James Woods was winning his own awards.
